While Back to the Roots offers little in the way of traditional blues, there is a lot of Mayall's signature piano here and a lot of good progressive music in the inimitable Mayall style. This CD deserves more than five stars and I say its about time that this superb Mayall album is available to both his old stalwarts and a new generation of fans/5(68).

Back To The Roots es el primer disco que escuché de John Mayall. No es el mejor, aunque está entre los cinco mejores de su extensa discografía, pero este tiene un lugar privilegiado en mi corazón. Lo recomiendo al %/5(54).

Apr 17,  · I'm listening to my US Polydor pressing of "Back to the Roots" and completely digging the multi-faceted improv that is abound throughout all 4 sides of this 2 LP set. It's not what you mostly hear about from the very guitar jam based Beano, Hard Road, Crusade, etc.

John Mayall's definitely getting back to his roots here – and he's also getting help from an all-star cast as well! Mayall's vocals and piano are in fine form – almost with a rough-edged Blues Breakers sort of vibe, but sometimes a bit funkier too – in ways that strongly show the evolution of the older Brit blues groove into some hipper, more soul-drenched territory.
